Mission: To alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty that exist in Hood River, Wasco and Sherman Counties.

 

MCCAC is a private, non-profit corporation formed in 1966 to provide a variety of social programs in the Mid Columbia area.

36% of our population ages 17 and under are receiving emergency food.
       14% Increase in food box distribution since 2002.
       5,670 people in Wasco, Sherman, and Hood River counties were on food stamps in 2003.
       Food Stamps generated $424,478 back to our tri-city economy, through local purchases in 2003.

How does Mid-Columbia Community Action help?

  • Providing food to agencies serving low-income peoplke, including: FISH, Salvation Army, Sherman county EFB, St Patrick’s, The Dalles Community Meal, Rock Hollow Senior Meal, Hood River Senior Center, Pioneer Potlatch, St. Vincent de Paul

Where does food come from? Food comes to MCCAC from:

  • Oregon Food Bank
  • Local food companies and grocery stores
  • Farmers and gardeners
  • Food drives and individual food donors US Department of Agriculture

What kinds of donations can MCCAC accept?
 

MCCAC can pick up, handle, inspect, store and distribute most food products, including: fresh, dry, canned, discontinued, out of specification, frozen, code dated or clean, damaged foods. We can also accept household goods, pet food, health/beauty aids, paper products and diapers.
 
How do I know what happens to my food donation?
 
  MCCAC is monitored by Oregon Food Bank to ensure safe handling of food and we contract with our member agencies to make sure that donated products will not be sold, traded or bartered. Recipients are never charged for food.
 
How is Mid-Columbia Community Action funded?
 
  MCCAC is a community based non-profit agency who receives funding through private donations and state grants.

Free food isn’t free. Tons of food are donated each year, but it costs money to collect, process, store and distribute that food.

Conduct a food drive in your neighborhood, church, school or office.
