Point in Time Count (PIT)
Each January, during the final ten days of the month, our region takes part in the annual Point in Time (PIT) Count, a federally required survey that provides a snapshot of how many individuals and families lack stable housing. Responses are based on the county participants call home, not necessarily where the shelter is located, as guided by our state’s Rural Continuum of Care.
In 2025, Mid-Columbia Community Action Council (MCCAC) and partner agencies led the PIT Count in Hood River, Wasco, and Sherman Counties, ensuring an accurate and compassionate count that supports continued investment in regional houseless services.
Our Impact Across the Mid-Columbia Region
We are dedicated to building a future where every neighbor in Hood River, Wasco, and Sherman counties has a safe place to call home. Our work centers on equity and partnership, providing a comprehensive support network designed to move individuals and families from crisis to long-term stability.
Through our core programs, we address the root causes of poverty by focusing on three essential pillars:
Housing Stability & Prevention: We partner with individuals to secure permanent housing and provide critical rental assistance to help those at risk of eviction remain in their homes.
Emergency Shelter & Navigation: By expanding regional capacity through sites like The Annex and The Gloria Center, we offer immediate safety and trauma-informed care for those experiencing houselessness.
Essential Home Services: We ensure our neighbors live in safe, healthy environments by providing utility assistance and connecting households to energy-saving resources.
By investing in our community’s most vulnerable populations—including veterans, seniors, and families—we aren't just providing temporary aid; we are contributing to the long-term economic growth and resilience of the entire Mid-Columbia region.
